TESO (Koninklijke N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming) is giving a significant boost to its sustainability goals by transitioning to sustainable biofuel. The successful first delivery to the ferry ms. 'Dokter Wagemaker' marks a new chapter in the longstanding successful partnership between FincoEnergies and the Texel ferry service.
The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) successfully bunkered the third supply chain of a biofuel blend as part of its pilot to develop a quality, quantity and GHG abatement assurance framework for drop-in green fuels on 24 July.
Partnering with tonnage provider Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), this GCMD-led trial involved the Kaupang, a mid-sized gas carrier equipped with an LPG dual-fuel engine. As opposed to sailing on conventional fuel oil, LPG propulsion can reduce emissions. Using LPG requires a pilot fuel; replacing the pilot fuel with a biofuel blend can further reduce emissions.
In a collaborative pilot with the barge Vlissingen, FincoEnergies partnered with the Dutch tanker shipping company VT Group (Verenigde Tankrederij B.V.). The bunker vessel was modified to run on 100% FAME biodiesel supplied by Finco, made from animal and vegetable fats or waste cooking oils. During the nine-month trial, both parties gathered valuable data on equipment adjustments, blending skid, and pipelines. Such sustainability-focused biofuel trials provide essential data, technical insights, and valuable experience, driving forward sustainability efforts.
In a strategic partnership between Peterson Energy Logistics and Gulf Bunkering, the use of the fuel improver ChangeXL led to an exceptional 14% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions for the Southern North Sea (SNS)POOL's ships.
